Swansea City add to midfield ranks with Tom Iorpenda signing
Midfielder Tom Iorpenda has joined Swansea City for an undisclosed fee, subject to the relevant clearance.
The 21-year-old joins the Swans from Huddersfield Town and will wear the number 16 shirt for his new club. He has signed a three-year contract in SA1, which includes the option for an additional 12 months.
His ability to drive forward with the ball and his work-rate without it add another versatile option to head coach Vitor Matos’ midfield options, and Iorpenda is in contention to be involved in Tuesday’s Championship clash with Watford.
The highly-rated Iorpenda was on the books of Brighton as a youngster and went on to join the Terriers in 2022, making his senior debut in an FA Cup tie at Manchester City.
He spent last season on loan with Notts County and turned in a string of excellent performances, contributing three goals and seven assists, as they secured promotion to League One via play-off victory at Wembley.
Head coach Vitor Matos said: “Tom is a promising young player who has qualities that give us something different in midfield.
“He is an aggressive player who is confident in driving forward with the ball at his feet, but he also works very hard defensively, while having the quality to pick out progressive passes.
“We are excited to have him with us.”
Sporting director Ben Stevens added: “Tom is an exciting central midfield prospect who had an outstanding season last year, gaining promotion with Notts County.
“Along with his exciting physical attributes we are confident that working with Vitor and the team he will develop to his full potential and be a true asset to Swansea City.”
