Swansea City handed Newport tie in Carabao Cup

Swansea City will face Newport County in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Steve Cooper's side have been handed an all-Welsh draw in the southern section, and will take on Michael Flynn's League Two outfit at Rodney Parade.

The tie is set to take place on the weekend of September 5, although there is dispensation for clubs to play their first-round game prior to the start of the international break on August 31 if they can mutually agree a new date.

The Swansea and Newport senior sides last met in an FA Cup tie in November 2006, with the Swans emerging 3-1 winners.

Swansea's under-21 side also won their EFL Trophy games against Newport in 2016 and 2017, claiming a pair of 2-1 victories.

The date and kick-off time for the fixture will be confirmed in due course.
