Swansea City Ladies Cardiff Met

23rd January

Swansea City Ladies extended their unbeaten run to ten games and maintained their lead at the top of the WPWL with a 2-1 victory over defending champions Cardiff Met Ladies at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Sunday.
The Swans took the lead in the 25th minute when a misplaced back-pass from Cardiff Met's Robyn Pinder went into her own net.
The hosts then had a numerical advantage just after the half-hour mark after keeper Sara Moreira was shown a red card for handling the ball outside the box.
Swansea looked to make the advantage count minutes later as Jodie Passmore's free-kick from the edge of the box cannoned off the cross bar, but when the rebound was met by Sophie Hancocks her effort also hit the woodwork.

After the break, the Swans doubled their lead in the 70th minute with a close-range header from Lowri Ridings.
Erin Murray pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 87th minute to set up a tense finish, but the hosts held on to claim the derby bragging rights.
Ridings was delighted with her goal and the result. She said: "I feel that the team's drive and determination really shone through in the game. We battled well to secure the win.
"It feels amazing to get on the scoresheet, especially in such a big game."
Next up for Swans Ladies is a trip to Cardiff Met in the semi-final of the WPWL Cup.
