Swansea City U23s discover Premier League Cup opponents

5th September

Swansea City Under-23s will face Reading, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United in the group stages of this season’s Premier League Cup.

The young Swans, who have been drawn in Group A, are aiming for another impressive performance in the competition, having reached two finals and a semi-final in the last three years.

The under-23s have fond memories of playing Reading and Colchester in the Premier League Cup.

They beat the young Royals in the 2017 final, while enjoying 5-1 and 4-3 victories over Colchester in the following year’s competition.

Gary Richards and Cameron Toshack’s side also beat Charlton’s senior side in last season’s Checkatrade Trophy, with Adnan Maric’s strike earning a 1-0 win at The Valley.

The group stage will involve eight groups of four clubs, with each team playing their opposing clubs home and away.

The top two teams advance to the knockout stage, where all ties will be one-off matches decided by extra-time and penalties if level after 90 minutes.

The dates of this season's games are yet to be confirmed.
