Swansea City Under-18s Norwich City

12th August

Swansea City Under-18s suffered a 6-0 opening day defeat in their Premier League South clash against Norwich City on Friday.
Despite a promising start from the young Swans that saw Keiran Evans, Cameron Berry, Causso Darame and captain Liam Cullen all drive the attack, the Canaries took the lead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute as Louis McIntosh slotted home after he was judged to have been fouled.
Swansea almost equalised from a corner on the half hour mark as defenders Brandon Cooper and Dan Jefferies came close in front of goal but the home side doubled their lead minutes later when winger Devnonte Aransibia took advantage of a mistake at the back.
McIntosh and striker Kieran Higgs netted twice more for Norwich before half time.
Swansea started brighter after the restart and were awarded a penalty when defender Mael Davies, connecting with a cross from Darame, was brought down in the area.
However, the wingers' powerful spot kick was saved by Fergal Hale-Brown in the Norwich goal adding to a difficult afternoon.
The young Swans continued to battle in midfield to get something from the game, as Cooper saw his header flash wide before Cullen and Darame had further shots saved.
Emersson Sambu's strike before Higgs second ten minutes before the final whistle compounded a disappointing start to the 2016-17 season for the Under-18s at Colney Training Centre.

Under-18s coach Chris Llewellyn reflected on what was a disappointing start to the new season.
"There is no hiding from the fact that we have had a disappointing defeat," Llewellyn said.
"We will have to go back to basics. We have been in this position before last season, so we know what we have to do to turn things around.
"We have had an excellent pre-season so we know we could have done better today.
"From here the only way is up, there is no doubt we have made mistakes today but part of development is learning from mistakes. We have to learn the lesson from today's defeat and put it right in the coming weeks."
