Swansea City Under-18s Southampton Premier League South

6th December

Swansea City Under-18s took their third win in seven days with a dominating 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
The young Swans started brightly and saw an early chance from striker Liam Cullen go wide of the post.
Cullen did however break the deadlock just after the half-hour mark, beating the Saints defence to fire into the corner of the goal.
The Scholars were called on to defend chances from Southampton soon after, midfielder Harley Willard coming closest before the break.
Swansea continued to dominate the play in the second-half and doubled their lead on 62 minutes when attacker Liam Edwards played a neat one-two with Cullen before lifting the ball over the Saints keeper.
Substitute Brandon Griffiths almost added a third on 80 minutes when he raced through on goal only to be denied by a last ditch tackle from Southampton's defender.
The young Swans did net their third with a minute remaining, Liam Cullen finding space to fire home from inside the box for his second goal of the game.
U18s coach Eric Ramsay labelled the victory as the young sides' best performance of the season
"We were excellent in all areas," he said.
"We have built on what we did in our win against Norwich last week, moved up the gears and produced a dominating counter-attacking display.
"Myself and Chris (Llewellyn) are delighted with the result and pleased with the way the team are playing.
"We have been much more competitive in the league over the last few weeks.
"Our aim as a team was to have a better second-half of the season, we have now taken three wins from the last six in the league.
"The results have come with hard work, it is very pleasing that the squad are getting their reward for the work they are putting in.
"We want those performance levels and high standards to continue as we head into our next two games before the Christmas break."
The Under-18s begin their campaign in the FA Youth Cup on Friday, December 11, against Sheffield Wednesday at Steobonheath Park (1pm)
