Russell Martin hopes Korey Smith’s injury is not a serious one after the midfielder was forced off during Swansea City’s defeat at Blackburn.

Smith limped off with a calf problem early in the second half, and was replaced by Yan Dhanda.

Head coach Martin says the full extent of the problem will not be known until Smith can be fully assessed, but is hopeful the issue will not keep him out for too long.

“Korey is hopefully not too serious,” said Martin.

“At this minute in time it's a bit concerning because of what he felt, so we'll just have to assess that.

“We'll have some more news for you in the next few days, so that's disappointing because I thought he was excellent until he got injured.”

Martin added that Ryan Manning is close to a full return following a period of self-isolation in the wake of a positive Covid-19 test, while Ben Hamer has also tested positive. Liam Walsh is recovering from a hamstring problem.

“Ben [Hamer] and Ryan [Manning], with what's going on at the minute are just following protocols so they're fine. They'll be back very soon,” he said.

The Swans boss also confirmed Joel Piroe will be involved in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Reading.
