TALKING TACTICS: Leicester City v Swans

18th April

Continuing our partnership with football statistics website WhoScored.com, here is a preview of this weekend's trip to Leicester City.

Having come from behind to claim a draw against Everton,  the Swans edged yet closer to a record Premier League points tall. And they will get another chance to create club history this afternoon when they visit bottom club Leicester.

The Foxes have won their last two games, though, so it will be no easy task at the King Power Stadium.

The Swans ran out 2-0 victors in the reverse fixture back in October and will hope to record another positive result this weekend, having taken seven points from their last three matches and stormed into eighth place in the process.

A significant contributor to Swansea's impressive recent form has been a change in formation that has seen Wayne Routledge playing in a more advanced role, slotting in just off Bafe Gomis up front, ahead of a diamond midfield spearheaded by Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Routledge's experience is arguably often undervalued, but his reading and knowledge of the game along with his tricky dribbling make him a tough opponent for defenders to deal with.

As his touch maps show, courtesy of WhoScored.com's 'Chalkboard' feature, he roams the length and breadth of the pitch in his new role, finding little pockets of space to pick up possession, also creating openings for other runners in doing so as defenders track his movement around the final third.

With an extra man alongside him, Gomis has profited with a goal against Aston Villa followed up by a brace against Hull. Significantly, Routledge played an unassuming role in each goal.

WhoScored.com calculate ratings for every player based on over 200 raw statistics live and in-play, and with a score of 6.99 against Everton last weekend, he carried Swansea's greatest attacking threat.

Swansea have won three of their last four matches against Leicester - keeping a clean sheet in each of those victories - and with Garry Monk's men on their current run of form, they will hope add to that tally this afternoon.
