3rd December

Cardiff 1-3 Swansea
Division Three - Tuesday, 3 December 1996
The Swans produced an impressive performance as they beat Cardiff in the South Wales derby at Ninian Park.
Goals from Kwame Ampadu, Steve Jones and Dai Thomas secured all three points for Jan Molby's side as they continued their fine run of form.
The result saw Swansea climb to sixth in the Third Division table and go level on points with their South Wales rivals.
Both teams would go on to enjoy positive seasons and finish in the play-off places to decide who would claim the final promotion spot.
The Swans got the better of Chester in their two-legged play-off semi-final to seal a place at Wembley, while Cardiff lost to Northampton.
However, the Swans were denied promotion to the Second Division following a last-gasp defeat against the Cobblers at Wembley.

SWANS: Freestone, Ampadu, Clode, Walker, Edwards, Jones, Jenkins, Penney, Torpey, Heggs (Thomas), Coates.
