Tom Carroll is set to pull on a Swansea City shirt in anger for the first time in 10 months when the under-23s face Aston Villa on Monday night.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been beset by hip injury problems and last featured for the Swans in a 3-1 win over Blackburn at the Liberty last October.

He made two substitute appearances during his loan spell at Aston Villa, which was curtailed when injury issues reared their head again.

Carroll has since undergone surgery on the problem and, having returned to first-team training in recent weeks, the former Tottenham man is ready to get back out on the field.

“Tom Carroll, as we know, has been a longstanding injury absentee, but he is due to play on Monday night for the under-23s,” said head coach Steve Cooper.

“That is good news that he has come through a few weeks of full first-team training well and he is ready and confident to get some minutes.

“We look forward to that on Monday.”
