Toshack confident of building momentum

13th January

Cameron Toshack is confident that Swansea City Under-23s can build on their recent momentum in Premier League 2 when they welcome second-placed Leicester City on Monday.

The young Swans welcome the Foxes to Landore aiming to continue their impressive recent form that has brought a hard-earned 1-1 draw with Liverpool, as well as last week’s thumping 5-1 victory over Derby County.

Leicester will also arrive in South Wales with their tails up having won each of their last three games in Premier League 2, of which they could move top with another three points on Monday.

Toshack believes it will make for an interesting showdown, but is hopeful his side will take the spoils.

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve had some really good match-ups with Leicester, so we’re really looking forward to the challenge they will pose us,” the under-23s coach said.

“It should be a really good game because both teams are going into it with momentum.

“If we approach the game the way we have the last couple, I’m really confident we can get the three points and continue our momentum.

“That’s something we’ll be challenging the group to do on Monday.”

The young Swans are currently four points from safety with eight games remaining in the top flight of development football.

And Toshack has encouraged his players to focus on maintaining their recent performance levels as they look to move away from danger.

“Obviously, we’ve got a real challenge in front of us,” he added. “But, we’re looking forward to seeing what we can deliver in the second half of the season.

“If we put in performances like we did against Derby and Liverpool then there’s no reason why we can’t achieve our goals.”
