Toshack left with mixed feelings

22nd September

Cameron Toshack admits he has mixed feelings following Swansea City Under-23s’ 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Landore.

The young Swans made a decent start to the Premier League 2 clash and took a 35th-minute lead through Brandon Cooper’s header.

However, they were unable to build on that and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after Daniel Butterworth’s equaliser in the second half.

Toshack believes it is an opportunity that got away for the development side to register their first league win on the board but, following that impressive 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week, insists there are positives to be taken going forward.

“We’ve got mixed feelings about today,” he said.

“I think we were the better team in the first half. We had a lot of the ball but found it difficult to capitalise on our possession.

“We weren’t at the races after the break and you have to give a lot of credit to Blackburn. They came out and dominated the game. We’re a little bit disappointed to have allowed that to happen.

“In our home games, we’ve got our noses in front on the contest by playing good football. You expect something to happen from there and, when it doesn’t, it’s frustrating.

The under-23s coach added: “But the key with the youngsters is to try and make them as consistent as possible.

“It’s a point on the board and we’re unbeaten in two games in all competitions. I’m sure that first win is not too far away.”
