Toshack: We can challenge United

20th August

Cameron Toshack believes Swansea City Under-23s must take momentum from their Checkatrade Trophy win into Monday’s Premier League 2 clash against Manchester United (7pm).

The young Swans face the 2015-16 PL2 champions at Leigh Sports Village tomorrow evening off the back of their 2-1 midweek victory against League Two side Cheltenham Town.

Despite losing their opening PL2 fixture against Liverpool, Toshack believes the U23s can go into the game in confident mood.

“We didn’t play as well as we know we can against Liverpool,” said Toshack. “But we had a positive reaction against Cheltenham Town”.

“We fielded a young team on Tuesday which included five teenagers and they all rose to the challenge against an EFL side.

“It was pleasing to see how well we stood up to the competition and that win gives us more confidence going into this game.

“Manchester United will offer another tough test away from home.

“It will be a difficult game but if we start well I am confident we can rise to the challenge and take momentum from our win against Cheltenham into this game.”
