Toshack: We must seize opportunity

14th September

Cameron Toshack reckons it is important Swansea City Under-23s seize the opportunity when they face Liverpool in Premier League 2 on Saturday (3pm).

The young Swans travel to the LFC Academy aiming to record their first victory of the season, having collected two points from the opening four games.

Having already faced Leicester, Everton and Chelsea this season, Toshack insists playing against the top development sides will provide invaluable experience for the under-23s as they work towards the ultimate aim of first-team football.

“The big games are coming thick and fast,” he said. “This is why we’ve tried so hard to get into the top division.

“It gives our young men the opportunity to play against the best teams that Europe and the world have to offer at this age group.

“It’s really important that our young men remain competitive and seize the opportunity.”

The LFC Academy will be the latest notable venue to host the development side.

The 2018-19 campaign has already seen the Swans appear at the King Power Stadium and Goodison Park, as well as Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have played at some brilliant venues already this season,” Toshack added.

“That is so important for our young men as aspiring young professionals.”
