U19s reach FAW Youth Cup final

3rd April

Swansea City Under-19s reached their 11th consecutive FAW Youth Cup final by beating Connah’s Quay Nomads 4-0 at Latham Park.

The young Swans started strongly against the Welsh Premier youth side and took the lead after five minutes when a neat one-two between Liam Cullen and Keiran Evans saw the latter curl home a 20-yard left-footed shot that beat Nomads keeper Joe Loyde.

The Swans dominated large spells of the first half but saw Lydon produce a stunning stop to deny midfielder Oliver Cooper.

But under-19s captain Mael Davies ensured the Swans broke the Nomads’ resistance seconds before half-time with a powerful strike into the top corner.

Connah’s Quay looked for a way back into the game after the break but could not find a way past Nathan Sheppard and the organised Swans backline.

The lively duo of Evans and Cullen continued to create problems for the Nomads.

The duo combined again to put the Swans 3-0 up just before the hour mark as Evans’ pinpoint cross found Cullen in the box to nod home at the far post.

The Swans continued to control possession and added a fourth in the 80th minute when substitute Mason Jones-Thomas carved his way through Connah’s Quay’s backline to deliver a clinical finish.

The win set up a final with Cardiff after the Bluebirds' 6-0 win against Airbus UK Broughton.

The Swans will bid to lift their ninth consecutive title when they play the FAW Youth Cup final on Tuesday, May 1 (7.30pm) at the Liberty Stadium.
