Vitor Matos | The focus needs to be on what we do
Vitor Matos has challenged Swansea City to be brave with and without the ball as they prepare to take on West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns this afternoon (3pm).
The head coach and his Swans side will be looking to return to winning ways after a difficult run of results.
They take on a West Brom side who have suffered just one defeat on home turf so far this season, but who have taken one win from their last seven league games.
Swans boss Matos expects a very different challenge from the one posed by Derby in midweek, but has urged his side to focus on themselves and the areas they need to improve in.
“It will be different to Derby. They play 4-2-3-1 and are a good team with good technical players, especially up front,” said Matos.
“So I think it’s a team that is competitive, a team that can have good moments and spells with the ball, they try to press, so it will be a really good game.
“But we need to focus on ourselves at the moment to create the game we want. We have to improve how we use the possession we have and translate that into opportunities.
“It's clear that we need to have much more variety in the final third, in how we arrive there and we need to be much stronger on counter-pressing, so that's the things we focus on.
“We had a really good training session, we analysed the Derby game, and I like the mentality and the effort the players put in to the session.
“I think that's important now we know how hard it is to go there and we need to compete, that's the most important thing.”
