Vitor Matos | I am proud of what we have done over this week

Vitor Matos praised the performance of his Swansea City side despite them suffering a 2-0 defeat to Wrexham at the Racecourse.

The Swans showed the greater fluency with the ball and forced their hosts into numerous errors without it during the opening half and had chances and positions from which they could, and perhaps should, have opened the scoring.

However, Nathan Broadhead produced a fine finish after finding space to receive a ball in the box to give the home side the interval lead.

Swansea had further opportunities after the break, but in the end Callum Doyle’s deflected header was the only score of the second half.

Matos was disappointed his side could not deliver three points for the near 1,300 travelling Jacks who cheered them on north Wales, but he was proud of the display they produced at the end of a gruelling week.

“There’s not much of a story to tell, we conceded two goals and we did not take our chances,” he said.

“If you look at the game as a whole we put in a good performance, it is not a case of whether we got what we deserved because this is how football is.

“We created chances and sometimes the luck does not come our way, and I think unfortunately this was a day like that.

“But I am proud of what we did over what has been a short amount of days, the quality of our game keeps improving, our effort continues to be at a high level. I think that’s what we need to take from today.

“We just did not have that final touch to get a goal, we had the chances, we also did not have the luck with a couple of decisions.

“Our fans were unbelievable, their support was something that was there and pushing us through the game.

“It was quite something when we arrived and saw all of them, that makes us so proud and is something that is one of the biggest motivations we have.

“Unfortunately we did not get the result for them, but we showed a resilience and a character I hope they saw that.”
