Vitor Matos | Our concentration has to be on our performance

Vitor Matos insists Swansea City’s focus is solely on preparing to produce a performance when they face Wrexham in Friday night’s eagerly-anticipated Championship clash.

The two Welsh clubs in the Championship face each other at the Swansea.com Stadium in a south v north clash.

It will be the first time they have met in 20 years, with the previous meeting having been in the final game at Swansea’s old Vetch Field home in May 2005.

The fixture has attracted considerable attention, with the Sky Sports cameras in attendance, high-profile screenings across the Atlantic and a sold-out home crowd.

Matos understands the spotlight on the game, but knows for he and his players all concentration must be on what happens once kick-off comes at 8pm on Friday night.

“We have to focus on our performance, it’s as simple as that and that is the most important thing,” he said.

“It’s a football game, and that means that it is decided by everything that happens on the pitch.

“So, we will need to focus on what we want to do, how we want to play and what we are going to do to compete.

“That’s where the focus is. We are working on a daily basis to perform the best we can and compete the best we can, that is what is most important for us.

“We want to start games in the same way we finish them, and we want to finish games as we start them. We want to have consistency across the 90 minutes.

“There will be moments where are defending in different ways, or need to adjust, but in terms of our pattern we need to be the team that wants to be dominant over the 90 minutes. That’s the feeling we want to create.”
