Vitor Matos puts pen to paper on new Swansea City contract
Swansea City is delighted to announce head coach Vitor Matos has signed a new contract through to the summer of 2030.
The Portuguese was appointed in November 2025, and oversaw a strong second half of the season during which results and performances improved.
Having initially joined on a deal until 2029, the 38-year-old and the club have reached agreement on new terms that will extend his stay in SA1 by a further year.
Following his arrival in south Wales, Matos made an immediate impact to begin leading Swansea up the table and they ended the season having put in place strong foundations for the future.
The Swans ended the campaign with 14 wins from 30 league games under Matos, giving them a win percentage of 46 per cent.
On home turf, Swansea had the fourth-best home record in the division in the period after Matos became head coach, taking 30 points from 15 games while scoring 25 goals and conceding just 14.
Having signed his new deal, Matos has his sights firmly fixed on the season ahead and how the Swans can continue to develop and improve.
“From the moment I arrived here, I have sensed how powerful the connection between Swansea City and the fans and community is,” said Matos.
“This is something very special, it is a feeling myself and the players love, and the desire to keep building that and sharing great moments together is one of the key motivations in extending my contract with the club.
“We put good foundations in place last season, but now we have to look forward, we have to keep pushing and making progress.
“We have enjoyed a positive pre-season, and made good additions to our squad, and I am looking forward to the season ahead and beyond.”
Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe, added: “Vitor made a considerable impact following his appointment in November of last year and we are excited about the direction in which he is taking Swansea City.
“This new deal is a reflection of our belief in the work he and his team have done since joining us, and what we believe we can accomplish together under Vitor’s stewardship.
“The importance of stability and consistency of vision on and off the pitch cannot be overestimated, and we are delighted to have reached an agreement to extend his stay with us at an exciting time for the football club.”
