Vitor Matos | We all want more of this feeling

Head coach Vitor Matos has urged his Swansea City side to continue to build and improve after returning to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Oxford United at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Marko Stamenic’s first goal for the club and a stunning volley from Josh Tymon gave the Portuguese his first win as Swans boss.

But he was keen to praise his players for their performance, and the supporters for their vocal backing as Swansea secured a first win and clean sheet since October.

Now he wants everyone to keep pushing and keep building.

“I think it was important for us to have this feeling, and to break the cycle,” he said.

“We understand that if we can continue to do the right steps then we can have this feeling more, but we need to build again.

“We have a lot of games ahead and a lot of room for improvement, but it is a really important win.

“The togetherness we had was what we have been speaking about, using the stadium as a place where we feel we have 12 players on the pitch.

“We need to keep that going, and keep taking the steps in that direction.”

Stamenic’s header from a Tymon corner was Swansea’s first league goal from a set-piece this season.

And Tymon’s own strike came when a free-kick was only cleared out to the left-back at the edge of the area, where he dispatched a first-time left-footed strike into the net via the underside of the bar.

“I will expect more goals like that from him from now on,” joked Matos.

“It was a brilliant goal, and it was important he was in that position to be able to score that goal.

“It is great he believes he can shoot from there, and we want to improve our threat on the goal from outside the box.

“I am really happy for him, but even more pleasing was the performance he put on.”
