Vitor Matos has challenged his Swansea City team to show the right mindset and mentality when they face Championship leaders Coventry City at the CBS Arena this afternoon (3pm).

The Swans travel to face the league leaders having taken three wins from their last four Championship games ahead of a run of four games in 10 days over the typically hectic Christmas period.

With free coach travel provided by the club’s ownership group, more than 600 fans are making the Boxing Day trip to the west Midlands.

The visitors will start as underdogs given Coventry are unbeaten at home in the league this term, and sit six points clear at the summit of the table.

But Matos insists his team must approach the game with a positive mindset if they are to continue building on the encouraging signs shown over the first month of his tenure as Swans boss.

“They're all hard games in the Championship this season but, of course, Coventry is one of the best teams in the league,” he said.

“The numbers speak for themselves in terms of points and in terms of goals scored. They scored 24 goals in open play situations, 20 goals from set-pieces, so they are a really good team in all the moments of the game.

“That's a challenge, but the beauty of football is that in a specific point any team can beat any team and we will try everything we can to to compete in the game.

“We have to always go to compete and we always want to go with the mentality to win, that's the most important thing because that gives us the winning mentality we want to create, and this culture that we want to create.

“Then it is about the game itself, how we can dominate the game, how we can control the game and how we can compete against a really good team that are top of the table.

“That’s what we want. Our fans have been incredible in the away games, travelling to support us, so we will fight for every three points in every game”
