Vitor Matos | We kept going right until the end

Head coach Vitor Matos was pleased by the way his Swansea City side stuck at their task after they maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 0-0 draw against Wrexham.

The Swans earned their fourth clean sheet in five games and started a season with a five match unbeaten run for the first time since 2019.

Melker Widell had one of their better openings blocked, while Moussa Yeo just failed to reach an inviting cross at the end of a sweeping second-half attack, while Zan Vipotnik and Joseph Opoku fired straight at the keeper in the closing stages.

Matos was pleased to pick up another positive result despite not taking all three points, and that the hosts continued to push for a breakthrough right until the final moments in the all-Welsh Championship clash.

“I’m really happy with the clean sheet," he said.

“We competed really well and we wanted to win, but unfortunately we couldn’t score in the last third in the way we wanted.

“We had one or two situations where we could have scored but didn’t. That unsettled the game, but the game was quite physical. I think we felt that physically towards the end.

“We need to keep on putting in performances we can be proud of and be closer to winning games.

“I was really pleased that we kept pushing. That's part of the process of how we want to compete. We want to win games. Unfortunately, we were unable to score tonight but we got another clean sheet which allows us to build again.

“Now it’s up to us to continue to improve and keep moving forward."

The Swans have now gone four league games and 440 minutes without conceding, giving them the best defensive record in the league.

That defensive solidity has been a key feature of Swansea’s unbeaten start, with Matos delighted by the way his side handled Wrexham’s physical threat.

“We defended really well. There were moments where we needed to defend well and we did," he added.

“Wrexham couldn’t find that inside pass, which allowed us to break well in moments. It was a really physical game, a lot of moments, a lot of long balls, and being able to defend well was really important.

“We still created some chances as well, which was good, but we need to keep focusing on what we can improve.”
