Vitor Matos | We want to build on our away form

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos wants his side to build on their recent away performances when they face Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm).

The Swans head to Derbyshire unbeaten in their last five Championship away games, and will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

They will face a Derby side still searching for their first victory of the campaign, although the Rams remained firmly in play-off contention until the closing stages of last season.

Matos knows his side will have to be at their best if they are to return to SA1 with a positive result, but believes Swansea can take confidence from their recent performances on the road.

“I think they’re a really good team,” he said. “John is one of the best managers in the league, and one of the nicest persons as well.

“When you see a team that changes players, starting and on the bench, and the idea stays so consistent and so well managed, it says a lot about the team and about the manager.

“They are really good. They are quite threatening when they use Carlton Morris and Bobby Clark around him. Rhian Brewster, in the last game, coming from the bench, did really well as well. He was not available, but now he is.

“They are a good team that have a lot of strengths. They are really dangerous around the box and in the box. They arrive there quite consistently.

“Then it’s up to us to try to avoid that and give a proper game.”

Swansea opened their away campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory at Stoke City, while Matos had previously highlighted their away record as an area for improvement following the latter stages of last season.

And the Swans boss admits he is keen to see his side build greater consistency on their travels this term.

“We want to build on our away form,” he added. “I think that’s what we did towards the end of last season, and that’s what we want to do this season.

“Winning is always good. You play to win the game, and then, of course, every game has different specific things that you need to handle.

“This one is another one where they are quite good. Last season they scored two goals from the corner, so it’s something that we know they are really strong at as well.

“That’s part of the game and we need to be strong on set-pieces and in the way to avoid them.”
