Vitor Matos | We were well short of the level we have shown
Head coach Vitor Matos took full responsibility for Swansea City's 5-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers, acknowledging the performance had fallen a long way short of the standard his side have set during their strong start to the season.
The Swans were well beaten at MATRADE Loftus Road, and trailed 3-0 after just 15 minutes as Richard Kone completed a hat-trick with a close-range finish, a header and a penalty.
Swansea had chance of their own, Adam Idah forced Pierce Charles into a fingertip save which tipped his goalbound shot onto the bar, and had another effort palmed away, while Melker Widell was also denied by the keeper and headed over from close range.
But Jimmy Dunne added a fourth for the hosts in first-half stoppage time, and then rounded off the scoring in the final minutes of the second half.
It was a performances very much out of keeping with a start to the season which, even after this result, has Swansea in the automatic promotion places, and Matos feels it's important the lessons are quickly learned.
"That was not the performance we wanted, and it was a long way below the standards we have shown," said Matos.
"I take the responsibility, I am the head coach, it is my job to prepare the team, and for sure this is not what we wanted from this game.
"We did not start well and Queens Park Rangers started with a lot of energy. They scored from their first attack and it had an effect on us emotionally and we were not organised and concentrated, and they were clinical and made the most of those moments.
"We know we can be, and have to be, a lot better than that. We will go back through the game and analyse it to make sure we fully understand what went wrong and correct those things.
“Everyone is disappointed and hurting, No one wanted this performance when we were in a good moment winning games.
“We needed to improve now. That’s two defeats and this performance doesn’t kill what we have already done, but it is important we learn."
