Vitor Matos | We will not accept anything less than 100 per cent commitment
Vitor Matos insists Swansea City head into the final weeks of the Championship season with plenty to play for and plenty at stake.
The Swans will resume league action on Good Friday when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, before hosting automatic promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough on Easter Monday.
With seven games to go they are 11 points adrift of the play-off places, while they are 13 clear of the relegation zone.
That has led to questions as to what the Swans have left to play for over the remainder of the campaign, but Matos is clear there must be no letting up as he and his players look to make positive strides in their development.
“That is the mindset that I want, and a mindset our players want as well,” he said.
“We want to build a culture here, and if we want to build a culture you have to build it with the right values.
“For me, the right value in sport is the need to compete and make the most of every game. You need to squeeze everything out of every opportunity you have.
“We do not want to accept walking through the rest of the season as if it is done.
“We will not accept that because this club, and this badge, deserves a 100 per cent commitment to winning.
“That commitment needs to be there in every single game and every single situation. That is the character we want.
“For that, we need to attack these games. Every single game, whether there are eight to go, or just one.
“I know the players have that mentality, they know they need to push themselves.
“We are quite good in a lot of departments, but there are some we still need to improve and we will improve.
“To say that is not a lack of ambition. We are all ambitious, but we also know that things need to change with us taking the right steps at the right times. There are no shortcuts, you must do them properly, and you need to learn, improve and adapt.
“The important thing is that the hunger is there, the will is there. If we have that we will keep improving and that’s what we want.”
