'We hope to do some business'

Graham Potter admits Swansea City are in need of new recruits as they get set for the new Championship season.

The Swans kick off their second-tier campaign at Sheffield United in eight days’ time.

And Potter feels his squad must be bolstered before the transfer window closes next month.

The only fresh faces who have been on this week’s pre-season trip to Germany and Austria are Joel Asoro and Yan Dhanda.

Now Potter is aiming to add further fresh blood to the Liberty playing staff as the Swans prepare for battle in the Championship.

“We hope to do business. That’s clear and that’s something we want to do,” he said.

“The players need support from us to try to help them play better and enjoy their football.

“If we can add bodies to the group, I think that’s what everybody would like to see. That’s a process that’s ongoing and we are doing our best.”

Potter was speaking after the Swans’ final pre-season friendly ended in a 3-0 defeat to SC Freiburg.

After victories on home soil against Yeovil and Newport, the Swans kicked off their pre-season tour of Germany and Austria by drawing 60-minute games against Genoa and Magdeburg, before losing penalty shootouts after both matches.

They were then beaten 2-1 by Eibar before the Freiburg loss.

Potter added: “I think it’s clear we need to help the players and support the players and we also need to keep working.

“It was never going to be a case of clicking our fingers and everything would be fixed.

“We have to work and improve and help the guys. The effort is there, but it’s the final step in terms of responsibility, being a bit more positive and proactive, and we need to help them with that.

“The players have conducted themselves really well all week. But it’s disappointing to finish with a defeat, even against a good Bundesliga team.”
