Young Swans lose Stoke friendly

16th July

Swansea City Under-23s kicked off their pre-season with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Stoke’s development side at Dragon Park on Saturday.

The Swans fielded a young side that included under-18s keeper Nathan Shepperd and six first-year professionals throughout the game.

The Potters struck the only goal just before half-time, with the Swans unable to find a reply even though it was an even contest.

The runout allowed defender Brandon Cooper to play his first 90 minutes following a four-month injury lay-off. Academy midfielder Jayden Reid, meanwhile, got the chance to play alongside older brother Tyler.

The under-23s next face a friendly against National League South side Truro City in Cornwall on Wednesday evening (7pm).

Swans U23s: Nathan Shepperd (Scott Reed, ht), Tyler Reid, Joe Lewis (Cameron Evans, 63), Jack Evans, Keston Davies (Mason Jones-Thomas, ht), Brandon Cooper, Oliver Cooper (Jayden Reid, ht), Marco Dulca (Tom Price, ht), Liam Cullen (Courtney Baker-Richardson, ht), Keiran Evans (Kees de Boer, ht), Matthew Blake.
