Yzzy Taylor | The goals we scored were of high quality
Yzzy Taylor was delighted with the quality of Swansea City Women’s goals as the Swans returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over Barry Town United at Jenner Park.
Chloe Chivers opened the scoring with a stunning effort from 25 yards before doubling her tally with another superb strike just before half-time.
Aimee Deacon then added two goals of her own after the break, first finishing off a well-worked move before converting from the penalty spot following Amelia Herbert’s dismissal.
The result secured a fourth win of the season for Yzzy Taylor’s side and provided the perfect response to last weekend’s late defeat against The New Saints at Park Hall.
Taylor was particularly pleased with the quality of the goals and felt they were a reflection of how well her side had executed their game plan.
“I think we did really well today,” said Taylor.
“In terms of our style of play and how we want to create goals, the girls did exactly as we asked. It’s a testament to the girls’ understanding of the game plan that we wanted to go in with, and we were capped off with the execution of some really good finishes.
“We started really well. The intensity, especially within the first 10 to 15 minutes, was exceptionally high.
“We know that’s hard to maintain for a full half, but I think we also finished the half strongly. We saw the intensity that we wanted to bring in large spells of the game.
“To score four goals and keep a clean sheet is massive for us. I think we defended really well and then created plenty of chances, which is something we can be proud of.”
Taylor was also pleased with the performances of Chivers and Deacon, who led the line superbly and combined their attacking quality with a strong work rate out of possession.
“They both work so hard without the ball. They do a tough job for us and lead the line in terms of our press and our out-of-possession shape,” she added.
“But then, in possession, the goalscoring ability from the pair of them today was superb.
“I think Aimee Deacon ran that line on her own today and she did so well, so I’m really pleased she got her two goals, and then Chloe Chivers showed exactly what Chloe Chivers can do on the ball.
“But I think for us it was a real team effort.”
The clean sheet was also a major positive for Taylor, who stressed the importance of maintaining the defensive standards her side have been working on throughout the season.
“We talk about clean sheets every week. I talk about them maybe too much and do the girls’ heads in,” she joked.
“For me, our defensive shape is so important. We have to make sure that we are consistently working on it and what it looks like week in, week out.
“The girls were really resilient in what we wanted to do today. Even though we were missing Jess [Williams], our three central defenders that did play were superb, and I think our shape across the pitch was excellent.”
Taylor now wants her side to carry the momentum from the victory into next weekend’s meeting with Wrexham at the ThermaGlaze Ground.
“We’ll look at the previous games and the results today ahead of the week. I think for us, going into Wrexham, we have to take the momentum from today.
“We know they’re going to be quite disappointed with the result today, so they’ll be looking to respond and fight back. We’ll be ready for it, and we’ll look forward to inviting them down to the ThermaGlaze Ground next Sunday.”
