Yzzy Taylor | We have to learn from the small moments
Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor insists her side must learn from the small moments after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The Swans suffered their second consecutive defeat following last week’s loss to Wrexham, with a 35th-minute red card for Caitlin Williams leaving them with an uphill battle.
Ferry took the lead from the penalty spot through Lucy Powell following C. Williams’ dismissal, before Powell doubled her tally late in the first half.
Brooke Llewellyn added a third for the visitors in the second half, as the Swans were unable to find a way back into the game despite creating opportunities late on.
Taylor acknowledged that the early red card presented her side with a different challenge, but insists they must improve their management of key moments throughout the game.
"It’s an extremely disappointing result." She said.
"It was a tough day for us. The red card so early in the game presented us with a different challenge, but ultimately, it came down to small moments and how we manage those situations. It’s definitely a game we will have to learn from.
“I think our first 10 minutes could have been better. We want to be quicker on the ball and make sure we have runners, which I felt we lacked today, particularly when we were in possession.
Despite the challenge of playing with 10 players, Taylor praised the performances of individuals such as Ellie Lake, who continued to give everything until the final whistle. The head coach also acknowledged the importance of lifting the squad ahead of next week’s trip to face Cardiff Metropolitan.
“However, there were some good individual performances. Even up until the final whistle, you had players sprinting up and down the pitch.
“I thought Ellie Lake was superb today. I said to the group at the end that she epitomises what I want from a player representing this club. She never gave up, and there were others I could say the same about.
“Next week is really important for us. We have to continue with the work we are doing.
“I have a lot of work to do in preparing for the game, but just as importantly, I need to pick this squad up and make sure we produce a better performance and a result we can be proud of.”
