Swansea City Women head coach Yzzy Taylor was pleased with aspects of her side’s showing against Wrexham Women, but admitted they had paid for conceding early goals and not fully capitalising on their own chances at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans conceded twice in the early going as Ava Suckley and Katie Barker found the net for Wrexham, but they responded strongly to respond through a Stacey John strike and could easily have been level at the break following a strong end to the half.

But they were unable to carry that momentum into the second period, and Lili Jones struck to make Wrexham the first visiting side to win at the stadium in the Genero Adran Premier.

Taylor felt her side had taken a step forward from their defeat by Cardiff a week earlier, but was disappointed not to emerge with something to show for their efforts.

“I think we have the right to be disappointed,” said Taylor.

“This week we challenged the players to go out there and put in a better performance than we did against Cardiff last week.

“We did that, we worked a lot harder and we were a lot more tenacious in what we wanted to do.

“Unfortunately we again conceded early goals that left us chasing the game, but in terms of mindset, mentality and what we wanted from the girls that was better.

“I was happy with how we bounced back from those early setbacks, but it’s about how we take things on.

“We are creating chances but we need to make sure we are sticking them in the back of the net.

“The last 25 minutes of the first half we were on top and creating chances, but in the second half we struggled to get the same sort of hold on the game.”
