Yzzy Taylor welcomes confidence boost as Swans return to winning ways
Head coach Yzzy Taylor believes Swansea City Women can take plenty of positives from their attacking display after creating numerous chances in a 2-0 win over Cardiff Metropolitan.
Second-half goals from Aimee Deacon and Chloe Chivers secured all three points for Swansea, who produced a dominant display to claim their first victory in three matches in the Genero Adran Premier.
The visitors created several further opportunities throughout the contest but were repeatedly denied by Cardiff Met goalkeeper Violet Bell before Deacon broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. Chivers then doubled the advantage eight minutes later with an excellent strike from outside the area.
Taylor was pleased with her side's performance and believes there are plenty of positives to take from the afternoon. The Swans head coach praised the quality of both goals and highlighted how her players took on board the messages delivered by the coaching staff at half-time, with the improved second-half display reflecting their response.
“We can take a lot of positives from this performance. We were dominant in possession and created a lot of chances,” she said.
"I think we could have been a bit more clinical in certain situations and created some clearer opportunities, particularly in the first half, but we spoke at half-time about what it would take to convert those chances.
“It can be difficult to break teams down when they play with a low block, so we spoke about what we needed to do to create more opportunities in the second half. The girls took that information on board, and I think we moved the ball around a lot quicker after the break.
“The weather conditions were tough, but we were still able to dominate in the areas we needed to.
"Aimee Deacon's goal came from a great run, and she took it superbly well. The second was also a really well-worked team goal, finished off with an excellent strike from Chivers.
“We can be proud of the clean sheet.
"We always talk about the importance of not conceding goals, so I'm over the moon with it, especially after the past couple of games. It will be a big boost for the confidence."
The Swans travel back to Cardiff next weekend to face Cardiff City in the south Wales derby at Leckwith, and Taylor hopes the team will be able to use this results and performance as a starting point in building the momentum ahead of the match.
“A South Wales derby next week is always special, and it's something we'll look forward to,” she added.
“Hopefully, we can use today's result to start building momentum. We'll highlight the good aspects of this performance during the week and work on building on them as a team.”
