Jay Fulton puts pen to paper on new contract
Swansea City stalwart Jay Fulton is set to remain in the club’s colours for the next two seasons after putting pen to paper on a new contract.
The Scottish midfielder, who first joined the club from Falkirk in January 2014, has already completed a dozen years of service to the Swans and is the longest-serving player in the first-team squad.
In total, he has made 313 appearances and been a popular and trusted member of the squad under a succession of managers.
After making his move from Scotland, Fulton made his first appearance as a substitute in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa back in April 2014, before making his maiden start in the final game of the season away at Sunderland.
He played five games during the 2014-15 campaign, and then spent time on loan with Oldham at the start of the 2015-16 season, before featuring for the Swans in victories over Arsenal and Liverpool towards the end of that campaign.
He clocked up 19 more appearances over the next couple of the seasons, while also featuring six times during a loan spell with Wigan Athletic in the second half of the latter term, helping them cause an upset by knocking Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City out of the FA Cup.
Upon his return to SA1, Fulton racked up 38 games during the 2018-19 campaign and went on to play an integral part in the two play-off campaigns in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
He has been a regular pretty much ever since, and he has once again caught the eye under new head coach Vitor Matos, scoring a stunning winner against West Bromwich Albion along the way.
“Jay is a player who knows our club so well, and he has been a big help to me and my staff since we arrived here,” said the Swans boss.
“He is a senior player, with so much experience, and I have been really pleased with how he has taken onboard everything we have asked of him, and the ideas of how we want to play.
“His ability has been clear to see in how he has been performing on the pitch, everyone here has so much respect for him, and I am really pleased we will continue to work together."
