Alan Curtis proud of Swansea City's national contingent

8th September

Alan Curtis has hailed Swansea City's proud international involvement, labelling it a sign of the club's progression.
Garry Monk has seen 11 of his players called up for national duty, with representation for Wales, Argentina, Iceland, Ivory Coast, Poland and South Korea along with Wales U21s, England U21s and Spain U21s.
Federico Fernandez was among the scorers in Argentina's 4-2 friendly win over world champions Germany and Ki Sung-Yueng featured in South Korea's victory over Venezuela, while Wilfried Bony was in action for Ivory Coast in their 2-1 win over Sierra Leone.
At under-21 level, Josh Sheehan and Ryan Hedges helped Wales to a 2-2 draw in Finland while loan signing Tom Carroll played the full 90 minutes for England as they beat Lithuania.
Nine Swans are expected to be involved in fixtures held over Tuesday and Wednesday before they return to the club to prepare for Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
And first-team coach Curtis, who won 35 caps for Wales, believes the amount of internationals at the Swans is a reminder of the quality in Monk's squad.

"It just shows how much the club has come on in terms of calibre of players," said Curtis.
"Even when I was playing, we would get the odd player in the senior national team and a couple for a Wales Under-23 game, but it wouldn't make a dent in the squad.
"Now we have 11 players away on international duty playing in all parts of the world.
"And, when you think Jefferson (Montero) pulled out of the Ecuador squad while Bafe (Gomis) was on stand-by for France, we could have had more international involvement.
"It's great for Swansea City to have this level of involvement and it's also deserved recognition for the players.
"We hope everyone plays and, of course, returns home free from injury."
