Alan Sheehan | I am so proud of the players, they got what they deserved
Head coach Alan Sheehan believed his fearless Swansea City side got exactly what they deserved after they stunned Nottingham Forest with two stoppage-time goals to secure a deserved Carabao Cup third-round victory.
The Swans had trailed 2-0 at half-time to an Igor Jesus brace despite going toe-to-toe with their top-flight opponents.
But Cameron Burgess started the fightback by heading in his first Swansea goal from a corner, and the hosts then levelled in the 93rd minute when Zan Vipotnik scored for the fifth game in succession.
The drama was not done, and Burgess showed tremendous composure and technique to volley home the winner after Ethan Galbraith’s strike from distance had cannoned off the crossbar.
The late goals sparked delirious celebrations at the Swansea.com Stadium as the Swans reached the fourth round for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
And Sheehan could not hide his pride at the efforts of his players.
“I am absolutely delighted for the lads,” he said.
“Most of the time you get out what you put in, and we deserved what we got from the game tonight.
“We had a really good debrief after the Hull game, we spoke about the last 20 minutes of that game and about what we want to be in those moments.
“It was an honest conversation, and tonight the players were superb and they went all the way to the final whistle.
“We went after them continuously and I am so proud of them for doing that against a Premier League team with that level of quality.
“All credit to the players for that, they got what they deserved.”
