Alan Sheehan | It was a good exercise and there were some pleasing aspects

Head coach Alan Sheehan felt his Swansea City side showed some good signs after they got more valuable pre-season game time under their belts against Cheltenham Town.

After a goalless opening half, Trialist B put the home side ahead early in the second half at the EV Charger Points Stadium, but an own goal from an inviting Josh Tymon cross ensured the Swans quickly equalised.

However, Lee Angol scored what proved to be the winner inside the final 10 minutes, as he found the net at the far post.

Goncalo Franco, Liam Cullen, Melker Widell and Bobby Wales all had chances for the visitors as a number of players got another 70 minutes under their belt, and there were several encouraging attacking passages of play from the visitors.

Additionally, a number of youngsters again had their chance to feature in the first-team ranks, with Iestyn Jones enjoying his first senior minutes as a second-half substitute, with the Swans ending the game with seven players aged 21 and under on the pitch.

“That was another good exercise for us in terms of some of the things we have been working on,” said Sheehan.

“There were some pleasing aspects, over the first half – the first hour really – we showed good signs with the ball and just needed to be a bit more clinical.

“I liked a lot of the stuff we did, even if there are a number of things we know we need to work on and get better at.

“But that’s where we are at, at the moment, there are good bits and things to get better at but it’s more valuable time for the players.

“There was some very good individual performances, we have different relationships that we are building towards the realism of what it will be like playing in the Championship.

“We also gave some minutes to a lot of younger players who came to Spain with us, we want to find out the level they are at and nights like this help us to do that.”

The Swans saw Ricardo Santos forced from the field early on after landing awkwardly, and Sheehan confirmed the defender will need to be assessed to discover the extent of what appeared to be an ankle issue.

Ben Cabango continues to be monitored after picking up a niggle in Spain last week, while Jisung Eom is close to returning to individual training following the ankle injury he suffered against Kidderminster Harriers.

“Rico landed awkwardly, so we will need to assess that and see what the situation is,” added Sheehan.

“It’s disappointing obviously, we’ve had a few little unfortunate things come up and it’s about making sure we don’t take any unnecessary risks with anyone.

“Jisung did not come to Spain, but he is back on the grass on Thursday so hopefully we will get him some more minutes again.

“Ben just felt something in Spain, so we want to look further into that without risking him at this stage.”
