Alan Sheehan | We are disappointed because there was a lot we did well

Head coach Alan Sheehan was disappointed by Swansea City’s defeat to Leicester City, but felt his side had been well in the game until the final stages.

The Swans suffered a first home defeat since March as wonder strikes from Jordan James and Abdul Fatawu, plus a close-range header from Jannick Vestergaard, meant Adam Idah’s penalty was not enough for Sheehan’s side.

But that did not tell the full story of the game. James curled in a stunning opener for the Foxes, but the Swans were firmly in the contest and deserved their equaliser when Idah struck from the spot with 20 minutes to go.

However, Leicester restored their lead when Fatawu dispatched a strike into the top corner that was almost a mirror image of James’ goal.

And Vestergaard then nodded home, after a Swansea clearance had rebounded back into the area.

It meant the scoreline did not reflect the nature of the contest, and Sheehan was disappointed his players did not get something for their efforts.

“We are disappointed. For 75 or 80 minutes, until that second goal comes in, we were in a good place,” he said.

“We get the equaliser, we want to push on, we had some decent chances and control.

“They have a lot of quality throughout their team, and they have got two of their goals through worldies where they have come inside and put the ball in the top corner.

“That is disappointing, and then the third goal is a freak ricochet from a set-piece, and that’s the game.

“We got frustrated and lost discipline just over that final period of the game.

“I am very disappointed, but for 75 to 80 minutes we were very much in the game. We will go away, look at it and understand how we can come out on top of those fine margins.”
