Alan Sheehan | We have made a solid start, we want to keep improving
Alan Sheehan feels Swansea City have laid some solid foundations over the opening weeks of the season, and feels one of the next steps in his side’s progression is to show a clinical side in the final third.
The Swans have taken four points from their opening three league games, and have advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup where they will face Premier League Nottingham Forest.
Swansea have yet to concede a goal from open play in the Championship and have one of the lowest figures for expected goals against in the division.
They rank second for tackles and interceptions in the second tier, and are one of just five Championship sides in the last 32 of the League Cup.
They have also found the net in four of their five games, but head coach Sheehan acknowledges his side have spurned further opportunities to find the net.
However, he believes that finishing touch will come if his squad continue to work to the level they are.
“A lot of our games so far we are talking about the need to be clinical, but it’s also about what comes first,” he said.
“Ultimately we want to build character and confidence and then things start flowing.
“There are a lot of things that are going very well at the moment but we need to get to a place where we are hurting teams on the scoreboard, as well.
“We know goals change games, there’s big moments within a lot of games, a lot of these clinical moments where if you’re taking them you’re in the ascendency.
“Right now we are doing okay, but that’s one of the bits we need to add. We understand the unpredictability of the Championship and will look to improve on a solid start.”
