Amat looking for home advantage

Jordi Amat has called on his team-mates to follow up that historic win over Valencia with another three points against St Gallen on Thursday (8.05pm).

The Swans take on their Swiss opponents at the Liberty Stadium as they look to maintain their place at the top of Group A.

Michael Laudrup's side got their Europa League group stage campaign off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory away at Valencia on matchday one.

They now face back-to-back home games against St Gallen and Russian side Kuban Krasnodar, and Amat wants a repeat performance from that memorable night at the Mestalla a fortnight ago.

"The Europa League is a very important competition for us," said the defender. "It is a dream for all the players to play in this competition, but we want to try and win and go as far as possible.

"The first game against Valencia was perfect, and to score three goals was a great start. But we now play at home and we want to follow up that victory with another good performance.

"But we know it will be a difficult game. They also won their opening match in the group but it's important for us to win at home in front of our supporters."

St Gallen currently sit second in Group A following their 2-0 win over Kuban last time out - with the Swiss side reaching the group stages after edging past Spartak Moscow in the play-off round.

Jeff Saibene's men are fourth in their domestic league, but are unbeaten in their last seven outings.

"Sometimes in these games it is difficult to work out how to play," said Amat. "But the manager here has watched their games so he is able to tell as different things.

"But for us, the most important thing is ourselves and going out onto the pitch and getting the right result."

Meanwhile, Amat has settled well into life at Swansea City so far, making a good impression on the field with his composed displays.

The Spain Under-21 international arrived in the summer from Espanyol and has made six appearances for Michael Laudrup's side in all competitions - including that 3-0 win over Valencia.

And the defender admits he is learning from the likes of both Chico Flores and captain Ashley Williams as he looks to establish himself in English football.

"I'm very happy to be here," he said. "I think the Premier League is the best in the world, and I'm really enjoying it so far.

"All the stadiums are full, there are great players and it's a similar level to La Liga in Spain. Ashley (Williams) speaks to me everyday, but I need these players around me because I can learn a lot from them."
