'Angel the right choice for us'

Paul Clement is expecting Angel Rangel to lead by example after making him Swansea City’s club captain.

The Swans needed a new skipper after Leon Britton was named player-assistant coach following the departure of Claude Makelele.

Clement felt Rangel, who has captained the Swans on a number of occasions in the past, was the obvious candidate to take the armband.

“Given his age, experience and the excellent service he has given to this club over a number of years, Angel is the right choice to be club captain,” said the Swans manager.

“He is a great role model and a very good professional who all other players can look up to.

“His commitment to the club is obvious and the attitude he shows each and every day is very good.

“We are pleased to have him as our new club captain.”

Rangel has played more than 370 Swans games during 10 years distinguished years at the Liberty Stadium.

However, he has appeared only four times so far this season as he battles Kyle Naughton for the right-back spot.

As was the case with Britton, Rangel will be skipper whenever he is on the pitch.

If he is not involved, Clement will ask someone else to lead his side.

“When he is selected to start then Angel will captain the team,” Clement explained.

“On occasions when he is not starting, I will look at the teamsheet and make a decision on who will lead the team that day.”
