Swansea City Under-21s' head coach Anthony Wright was left disappointed having  watched his side fall to defeat to their Sheffield United counterparts on their opening day of the 2026-27 Professional Development League campaign.

Goals from Ehije Ukaki and Sam Curtis were enough to condemn the Swans to their first defeat of the season, following Friday’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City in the Premier League Cup.

The age-grade side registered just their second loss at the Swansea.com Stadium in five years, with Peterborough United - next week's opponents - ending their fine run last campaign.

But Wright insists much learning will come from the outing before they return to the stadium next week.

"We are disappointed to have lost the game. We had a lot of good aspects in the game where we showed a lot of control," said Wright.

"But the way we lost the game, with two set-piece goals, is really disappointing on our side. Individually there were a couple of mistakes and the opposition have punished us with that.

"It's always about us, we want to score goals and create. Box-to-box we dominated the game and suffocated the opposition.

"However, what we didn't do was be brave enough in the final third as a collective. We came up against a well-organised, stubborn team and they defended their final third very well.

"We had enough moments where we should have had enough chances, but I don't think we got that part right, and that's a learning moment for the boys."

Swansea City Under-21s are back at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday, August 25 when they welcome Peterborough United to SA1 (12pm KO), and tickets are free. Claim HERE.
