Coach Anthony Wright hailed a 'terrific' performance from Swansea City Under-21s as they eased into the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win against Carmarthen Town.

The Swans - finalists of this competition in the 2023-24 season - eased past their senior opponents at this stage of the Welsh League Cup for the second time in three years.

Morgan Bates opened the scoring in the first half from close range, but his goal was soon cancelled out by Liam Thomas and the sides remained level going into the break.

But the Swans enjoyed a fantastic second half, scoring three excellent goals through a Caleb Demery brace and a Ramon Rees-Siso effort.

And head coach Wright was pleased with the quality of goals on display, especially from new arrival Demery.

"I absolutely loved the performance, the boys were terrific from start to finish against a real disciplined team," said Wright.

"This is the reason why we enter this competition to give us that real feel of competitiveness and physicality against senior opposition.

"All four goals were brilliant. We have been working towards getting those forward runs and breaking the back line. The decision-making from the boys was outstanding today.

"I know it's the first competitive game of the season, but they really set the standard with the quality of goals, they were terrific. I'm also very pleased with Caleb, his quality really shone and that comes from two great campaigns in the Welsh leagues over the past two years.

"Each goal showed the individual quality of each player, they were all of a very high standard.

“We’ve got Afan Lido next, a team which I’m familiar with. We’ll look forward to facing a new team and a new test.”
