Anthony Wright pleased with resilience from under-21s
Anthony Wright praised the resilience of Swansea City Under-21s as they secured a 2-1 win over Millwall in the Premier League Cup on Friday evening.
Caleb Demery netted the opener before Morgan Bates won and converted a penalty to double the Swans' lead. Jack Howland pulled a goal back for Millwall, but a strong defensive display from the hosts made sure they clinched the three points.
The win made back-to-back victories in the cup, with the Swans kicking off the campaign with a 4-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October.
"I think the first 45 minutes was a joy to watch, some of the football, attacking play and the build was terrific," said Wright.
"The only thing I can pick on is the fact we could have scored five or six more goals. Their keeper made some saves and we missed a few.
"At half-time, we told them the level of the first half was very high and the scoreline didn't reflect that, so Millwall were always still in the game.
"We knew the first 10 minutes of the second half were going to be important, we had chances but they just did't fall into the back of the net for us.
"The game became very open then, and in fairness to Millwall, they kept going.
"I'm really pleased with our other aspect of the game, we showed a lot of resilience. We protected our goal, and in that time, Millwall didn't look the team that were going to score.
"We've not played for two weeks, so we got tired towards the end naturally. The substitutes that came on really brought back that momentum in our favour, and they were excellent."
