Coach Anthony Wright hailed Swansea City Under-21s' quality finishing as they hit three past reigning champions Millwall in their first Professional Development League fixture of 2024.

The Swans – fresh from reaching the final of the Nathaniel MG Cup – led 2-0 at the break thanks to a Charlie Veevers’ goal from close range and a Kyrell Wilson finish at the end of a brilliant, flowing movement.

Cameron Congreve added a third in the second half as Anthony Wright’s side moved to within two points of the second-placed Lions in the PDL South table.

There was also a third clean sheet in a row in all competitions for the hosts, despite a late red card for Filip Lissah, whilst the victory meant the Swans kept their long, long unbeaten run in the league on home turf in tact.

"I thought the boys' application was spot on, I really enjoyed a lot of the first half, I thought we played some terrific stuff," said Wright.

"The goals we scored were top level, that was really pleasing to see. The second goal was a superb finish by Kyrell [Wilson], again, I thought the first goal from Charlie [Veevers] was real high quality, too.

"We worked the ball around the pitch, we recognised the spaces and we really punished them. There was a nice bit of composure in the box for a tap-in for Charlie.

"I thought we were more ruthless than in the previous game, we took the opportunities when they came.

"The last 15 minutes are what pleased me the most, I said to the boys that the togetherness, the desire and the determination they showed to keep a clean sheet was brilliant. As coaches we say those are the givens.

"We had all of those in abundance against Millwall. To come out with a clean sheet against real good opposition, with 10 men, was very pleasing."
