Anthony Wright expressed his pride in Swansea City Under-21s securing a play-off place following their 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town.

Morgan Bates' first-half goal was enough to clinch the three points at Highbury on Tuesday afternoon when the striker tapped home his 19th of the season from a Josh Pescatore rebound.

And following the new rules introduced into the PDL prior to the 2025/26 campaign, the young Swans will now enter a play-off stage where they will face category one opposition, an aim Wright said was set out from the beginning of the season.

"We had some half-chances in the first half, but I’ll be the first to admit I wasn't happy with our use of the ball. Thankfully, Morgan Bates showed that striker's get on the rebound and get us the lead before half time," he said.

"We sat down at half-time, and looked at how to create space against that man-to-man press. We needed more control, and we needed to move their players out of position to open up the passing lanes.

"The boys executed that perfectly in the second half. We had much better connections across the pitch and created the chances to put the game to bed. We didn't quite get that second goal to kill it off, but the improvement in our play was clear to see.

"Fleetwood threw everything at us late on, but the boys stayed resilient. They defended the box superbly and held on until the final whistle. It’s a satisfying win because we’ve we have won the game  "ugly" when the conditions demand it.

"We're incredibly proud to have secured a play-off place and to see the team changing from week to week, the standard hasn't dropped.

"It has given brilliant opportunities for players to step in and step up, and something we will continue to do as a club. To get over the line with two games left is a testament to the academy who have been around the squads. They’ve worked tirelessly, and they deserve this moment."
