Swansea City’s Ben Cabango is fit and raring to go for the new Championship season after getting 90 minutes under his belt in Saturday’s friendly against Southampton.

The centre-half, 21, was granted some extra recovery time before reporting for pre-season duties, having been part of the Wales squad for the summer’s Euro 2020 finals.

He played 45 minutes in last week’s friendly at Forest Green, and followed that up with a full shift in the 3-1 defeat to Premier League Saints at the Liberty Stadium.

Cabango’s next action could be in next weekend’s Championship opener at Blackburn, and he insists he will be ready to go again after being an integral part of last season’s march to the play-off final.

“It was great to be back here at the Liberty and playing in front of these fans, they have been truly missed,” he said after playing in front of over 5,000 Jacks.

“It was big for me to get my first 90 minutes under my belt, I was blowing a bit that last 25 minutes but it was a good test for us against a good side.

“I thought in the first half we kept the ball well, we have learnt a lot from that and the task now is to take that into the league next week, and try and get off to a good start.

“I feel like it’s been going well. The 45 minutes on Wednesday was good, I felt fit. My legs were a bit dead after 70 minutes in this game but, overall, I am feeling fit and I am ready to go.

“I feel ready, and this game has put us in good stead.”

Cabango relished his involvement at the Euros as Wales reached the last-16 before being defeated by Denmark.

And he feels he has benefited from the experience.

“It was a great experience to be a part of and I learned a lot,” he said.

“I just want more and I hope we can push on towards the World Cup now.”
