Ben thanks fans for their loyal support

Ben Davies was keen to thank fans for their support this season after the Swans suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in their final home game of the season.

An injury time freak goal by Rickie Lambert secured all three points for the visitors in what was a tight affair at the Liberty.

After Wilfried Bony, Pablo Hernandez and Jonathan de Guzman all saw chances go begging for the Swans, Lambert bundled the ball over the line after Ashley Williams' attempted clearance looped over the head of Michel Vorm in the 93rd minute.

And after the narrow defeat, Davies was keen to thank supporters for their commitment and loyalty through difficult periods this season.

"It was a difficult game out there today, and it was bitterly disappointing to concede a goal at the end," admitted the Welsh left back.

"But we can only be grateful to the fans today. The commitment they have shown has been unbelievable this season.

"We really appreciate their support in travelling up and down the country, as well as to Europe, to cheer us on.

"Their support has really helped us when times have been tough."

Meanwhile, Davies was glad that Saturday's defeat had no impact on their Premier League status after back-to-back victories over Newcastle and Aston Villa ensured they would remain in the top-flight for another season.

And the Swans star is aiming to finish the season on a high when they travel to Sunderland next weekend.

He added: "The last two results have been really important for us, so it's nice not to be involved in the drama at the bottom of the table.

"But we want to finish on a high against Sunderland next week, which will put us on the front foot ahead of next year. It would be lovely to pick up three points to finish the season."
