Ben Wilmot has paid tribute to defensive partner Mike van der Hoorn and believes the pair are already forming a good understanding at the heart of the Swansea City defence.

Wilmot has partnered the Dutchman in the last three games, which have seen the Swans record wins over Cardiff and Wigan, as well as a draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

With Joe Rodon beginning a lengthy spell on the sidelines, it was crucial for Wilmot and van der Hoorn to quickly settle into a reliable pairing and replicate the sort of form the former Ajax man had shown with his Welsh colleague.

And, while it is still early days, Wilmot feels there are encouraging signs, and values the experience of playing with a man who has started Swansea’s last 63 league games in succession.

“I think we complement each other quite well,” said Wilmot.

“We communicate with each other all the time. We’re good mates off the pitch as well.

“It’s a good partnership; I enjoy playing with him and I hope he enjoys playing with me as well. It’s good and I hope we can keep improving it as the season goes on.

“It’s handy that I play alongside somebody with so many games under his belt.

“It always helps me to play with someone more experienced. It keeps me relaxed and takes the pressure off a little bit.”
