Steven Benda cannot wait to get down to work with new Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper as pre-season preparations rapidly approach.

The 20-year-old German keeper this week signed a new three-year contract to keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2022.

With new terms agreed, Benda and the rest of the Swans squad can look forward to meeting and working under Cooper, who left his role with England's World Cup winning U17 side to move to the Liberty Stadium.

And the former 1860 Munich stopper - who was included in the first-team matchday squad on 14 occasions last season - believes Cooper can help a youthful Swans squad reach their potential given the 39-year-old's impressive track record.

“I am very impressed with the appointment," said Benda.

“He won the World Cup with England under-17s, so that shows to players like myself that he trusts and likes to work with young players who are developing their game.

“I am looking forward and want to develop further under him and I hope I will get that chance.

“It is exciting for myself and the team. Last season a lot of young players were give their first opportunity in first team football. It looks like that opportunity could continue this season."
