Billy Clarke savours "surreal" feeling in FA Youth Cup victory
Match-winner Billy Clarke savoured a "surreal" feeling after his 120th-minute goal sent Swansea City Under-18s into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with victory over Leeds United.
The Swans had taken a deserved first-half lead through Callum Jones, with Carrick Njinko and Callum Mills threatening shortly before the interval for the hosts.
Njinko scored an equaliser shortly after the hour mark, but as the second half wore on it was Swansea who looked the more likely to find a winner.
The goal did not come and extra-time was needed, but the visitors did claim the win when Clarke slotted home after a mazy run in the final moments to seal a famous victory for the age-grade side.
It was an eighth goal of the season for the 18-year-old, and he could no hide his delight.
"It's a surreal feeling to get through to the next round the way we did, especially against a tough, category one Leeds side," said Clarke.
"The boys fought so hard for 120 minutes, we held on all game because we stuck together and dug deep, and it paid off.
"It wasn't really a game where we had a lot of possession, but when we went forward we did look threatening. We defended well, but they did get a goal which deserved.
"Approaching the extra time, we were tiring, it was a fast-paced game. We just kept fighting, and the coaches and the bench spurred everyone on and I'm glad to have got the chance to get the winner.
"Last-minute winners, especially in knock-out games, mean so much more. We were all buzzing and it was a great feeling to celebrate it with the boys who were superb."
