Swansea City Vs Newcastle United - Vetch Field - December 13, 1980

Swansea City moved within two points of third-placed Notts County after beating Newcastle United 4-0 at the Vetch Field.

In their ninth win of the league campaign, the Swans secured an emphatic victory, courtesy of goals from Leighton James, Jeremy Charles and a brace from Robbie James.

After 11 minutes, Leighton James fired the Swans in front from a free-kick, which deflected in off of Magpies striker Alan Shoulder before nestling in the back of the net.

Then James turned from scorer into provider when he crossed for his namesake Robbie James to make it two.

On the brink of the half-time interval, Jeremy Charles extended Swansea's advantage by latching on to Robbie James' initial shot, helping the ball over the line.

And with just over an hour gone, Robbie James rounded off the scoring with his second of the game when he went one-on-one with the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
